Graduates are losing out on their dream jobs because they are not being proactive enough, according to research by the interview training firm Evolutions.
Commenting on the findings, Daniel Halls, co-founder at the Graduate Recruitment Bureau (GRB), said that graduates "can't just sit back and wait for a job to come to them".
He added: "They have to be very proactive, now more than ever. It is very competitive, they are up against, in some cases, graduates from last year who might have gone travelling and are now entering the job market."
With unemployment on the increase, graduates who delay making job applications are likely to face increased difficulties when job-hunting or trying to get credit.
Official figures show that unemployment has risen to more than two million, and that for young people below the age of 25, unemployment has increased by 19,000 to 945,000.
