The most romantic day of the year is already upon us. Millions of us spend big at Valentine’s Day. We took a look at just how much the nation spends.

Believe it or not, we’re already in the second month of 2019 and the most romantic date in the calendar is approaching fast. Whether you celebrate or not, you can’t ignore Valentine’s Day. Over £650 million was spent in Britain in 2018, an increase of 5% on the previous year. The huge spend last year made Valentine’s Day the largest spending retail event in the first half of the year, overtaking Easter.

With over £266 million alone being spent on flowers (the most popular being red roses of course!) many of us make an effort to show our loved ones just how much they mean to us. Which, it turns out, extends to our pets too with 4.5% of people treating their dog to a Valentine’s Day gift.

Millions of us will be celebrating in 2019, whether a chocolate filled Netflix evening is your ideal Valentine’s Day or you prefer a restaurant with all the bells and whistles. We’ve taken a look at how the nation spends their money on the most romantic day of the year.
