Soft Credit Search Terms & Conditions

Please read below for our Soft Credit Search Terms & Conditions

Terms & Conditions

1. Important

1.1. Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully. By completing and submitting the Vanquis soft credit search application form you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

1.2. We may amend these Terms & Conditions at any time without notice to you by updating this page.  Your continued access to or use of this website will constitute your acceptance of any such amendments.

In these Terms & Conditions, ‘we/our/us’ means Vanquis Bank Limited (Company number 02558509) whose registered office is at No. 1 Godwin Street, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 2SU.  Vanquis is a member of the Vanquis Banking Group, a financial services group specialising in the provision of short to medium term retail consumer finance.

2. What will we do?

2.1. Vanquis will conduct a ‘soft credit search’ on you.  A ‘soft credit search’ allows lenders to check your eligibility for credit without affecting your credit score.  The Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ service may also be referred to as ‘Express Check’ on our website and in other communications.

2.2. Vanquis uses a ‘soft credit search’ along with its credit scoring methods to check your eligibility and assess whether you would be successful if you decided to apply for a credit card to be issued by Vanquis.

2.3. A ‘hard credit search’ can affect your credit score as it may be used by other lenders to determine your eligibility for credit. Please note that a Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ will become a ‘hard credit search’ on your credit report if you decide to apply for a Vanquis Credit Card and that application is successful.

2.4. As part of the Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ service, if you do not become a Vanquis customer straightaway, we will keep and may use the information you’ve submitted to review your credit file in future.   We will use it to carry out a ‘soft credit search’ - which won’t affect your credit score - and we may then contact you (by email, post, social media, telephone and/or SMS) about similar products and services offered by Vanquis.  You do not have to agree to our use of your personal data in this way and you will be given the option to decline this as part of the ‘Express Check’ process.

3. When does the Vanquis soft credit search service start and when does it end?

3.1. The Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ service will commence when you submit your information on the Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ form.

3.2. The Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ service ends when either:

3.2.1. you become a Vanquis customer; or

3.2.2. you tell us that you don’t want to use the Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ service anymore; or

3.2.3. three years after you submit your Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ form to us; whichever is the first to happen.

3.3. If you want to stop using the Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ service please call our customer services on 0330 099 3000* and we will remove your information as soon as reasonably practical and in any case, within one month. You will be given the option to decline this immediately as part of the ‘Express Check’ process.

4. Things to keep in mind:

4.1. Credit is subject to: status; telephone contact; confirmation of name, address and contact details; not already holding a credit card issued by Vanquis Bank; no reasonable suspicion of fraud; is only available to UK residents who are at least 18 years of age and are not legally restricted from obtaining credit e.g. because of bankruptcy.

4.2. The result of your Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ is a good indicator of whether you would be approved for a Vanquis Credit Card. However we may be unable to open your Vanquis Credit Card account if:

4.2.1. we are unable to successfully complete affordability, fraud and money laundering checks or the telephone call we need to make to you to complete the application process (our ‘Welcome Call’); or

4.2.2. you change any of the information you provided to us in the Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ form or otherwise; and

4.2.3. in some cases we may need you to set up a Direct Debit before we can open your Vanquis Credit Card account.

4.3. If false or inaccurate information is provided and fraud is identified, details will be passed to fraud prevention agencies.

5. Use and Storage of your Information

5.1. We will use your information to provide you with the Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ services.

5.2. When you use the Vanquis ‘soft credit search’ service we will process, by computer or otherwise, personal information about you whilst we are assessing your application. When assessing your information, we may use credit scoring or other automated decision making techniques.

5.3. We will keep your information securely and will not keep it for longer than is necessary and as described in clause 3.2 above.

5.4. If you decide to apply for a Vanquis Credit Card you will be provided with further details about how your information will be used and shared in order to progress your application.

5.5. We may also assess whether you would be eligible for an alternative or similar credit product, such as a personal loan. If such a product is available to you, we will contact you about that product.

5.6. We may monitor or record telephone calls for security and staff training.
